In addition to a required research project (MSE 499), students are encouraged to start research earlier, especially if they are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. program in the future. By participating in a research project, you apply the knowledge from your classes to solve real-world problems. Working alongside MSE faculty, post-doctoral scholars, research scientists, graduate students and other undergraduate students is a great way to build your professional network and complement internship experiences. If you are considering graduate school, participating in research is an excellent way to prepare.
Tips for finding meaningful research experiences that match your career goals and interests:
- Review the research done by MSE faculty members by looking at the faculty members' web pages.
- Visit the UW Office of Undergraduate Research website.
